Unno Residence —
Japanese Tea Garden Courtyard

It was a pleasure to build this delightful tea garden courtyard for the Unnos. Designed for use in ceremonial tea practices, this garden was intended to evoke a sense of peace and tranquility while providing an intimate setting for ceremonies. Highlights include ornate Japanese-style fences and gates, a large stone bench and retaining wall, artfully placed boulders, robust timber steps leading to an upper vegetable garden, a flagstone patio, and a variety of specialty plantings including Yuzu, Camelia, Japanese Stewartia, ‘Orangela’ lace-leaf Japanese Maple, Buddhist pines, and Japanese forests grasses.

One unique feature of the project elegantly addressed an existing drainage problem through the installation of a deep, ornate rock swale, helping prevent the site from becoming waterlogged during the rainy season.

Silberman Residence —
From Lawn to Inviting Garden

This project transformed a once lawn-dominated suburban front yard into a beautiful and inviting garden space filled with texture, color, sound, and a greater sense of privacy. This design reimagined the space to create a more engaging and welcoming arrival to the home. A carefully crafted flagstone entryway, new pathways connecting the front and backyard spaces, and a diverse selection of thoughtful plantings bring a greater richness, depth, and character to the landscape.

Unique elements of this project include an inviting water feature designed to flow beneath a flagstone walkway before opening into a small pond with aquatic plantings, a small Corten steel retaining wall, and a finely planted privacy berm that provides screening while becoming an integral part of the garden. Together, these elements transform what was once a simple lawn into a layered and immersive garden space with a stronger sense of place.

Liedtke Residence — Fully Transformed

Jill reached out to Satori Landscape Design with a request with help for her front and back yards, a full transformation is what followed; Areas overgrown with lawn and invasives were planted with lush garden beds, old rail tie boxes were transformed into ornate stone planters, and the lawn was reduced and beautifully framed with pavers. Other highlights include a new circular paver patio, new pathing connected the front and back spaces in a more natural and cohesive way, and a front stone boulder wall with a natural look.

A unique feature to this design was the large fully native section of the installed garden beds which created habitat for birds and creatures, while also maintaining a beautifully natural aesthetic of the rest of the garden. This area is ecologically rich and aids many local pollinators.
